Rediscovering the photo archive with technology
I worked with about a dozen newsrooms across Argentina to understand their archive problems and figure out solutions together.
How it was made
In an industry where everything is due yesterday, revenues are shrinking, and workflows are being shaken up by AI, photo archive management is rarely a priority. That’s why ADIRA (the association of regional newspapers), together with NMEDIA and with support from the Google News Initiative, set out to run a program exploring how technology could help newsrooms.
The Result
Building on my experience with Visión Latina, I spoke with editors, photographers, and archive managers from more than 10 newsrooms around the country. We implemented individual coverage projects using AI for facial recognition and promoted the proper use of metadata to manage archives more effectively.
